Solar Without Borders is a uniqe project which not only betters the lives of people in Third World countries, making them worthy of a human being, but also works on the ever growing environmental problems.
- Development aid: photovoltaic modules provide basic electricity in villages that run without electricity. This has a considerable impact on daily life.
- By installing solar lighting in hospitals, oil lamps no longer need to be used. These lamps emit chemicals that are hazardous to the newborn and provide insufficient light.
- A hospital fridge provide the opportunity to preserve vaccines and medicines. Today, people still have to walk over 20 km to get access to vaccines or vital medicines, so that a lot of newborns aren't vaccinated and many people don't get their medicines on time.
- No nurse or doctor wants to work in a hospital without basic electricity, so all professional competence is found in the cities. Because of this, people often get the wrong treatment.
- Lighting in schools makes it possible for people who work on the field during the day to take courses in the evening.
- In most developing countries, it is dark at 6pm. Without proper lighting, no social interaction is possible. Still, this is often one of the moments on which people learn from one another.
- Solar-driven pumps on spots where farmers can't afford diesel for their generator and are therefore forced to reduce their reaps, increasing poverty.
- environment: generating electricity through photovoltaic modules is one of the most clean forms of energy generation because it gets its energy merely out of the sun. If we are to sell electricity to Third World countries, it needs to be clean energy. Also in Belgium, SWB contributes to a clean environment by supplying events with renewable energy.
